 About Ma-Ke

Ma-ke Bonsai has grown out of my 20 year affair with Bonsai.

I was introduced to Bonsai in India when I met a small group of Bonsai enthusiast in my hotel. I instantly fell in love with those beautiful little trees. I bought a couple of  Ficus trees and have been hooked ever since.

I first started growing Bonsai from clippings from my Bonsai. However, for most of my younger years I lived all around Asia and Africa and I grew bonsai where ever I could and from whatever source I could get my hands on.

Back then, Bonsai was only a fledgling art and, in most coutries, not much local Bonsai information available. Each region, country, and species therefore presented its own challenges and learning. Even if I had grown a species earlier, moving to a new region invariable ment I had to learn to grow the tree all over again and adapt to local condition, climates, water and resources.

I finally set roots in the UK about 10 years ago and after an extended visit to Peter Chan's Herons Nursery, re-started my 'collection' of trees. I soon found I had hundreds of trees, many of them cultivated from seed and cutting.

The Art of Bonsai is still not as popular as it should be it is still looked upon as a pastime for the affluent. Our mission at Make Bonsai is to spread the Art of Bonsai to a wider audience, because I believe that the Art of Growing Bonsai is very therapeutic, stress busting and lots of fun. I believe Bonsai is for Everyone.
